New Zealand... has a wine producing country ever been so defined by one wine? Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - love it or hate it, there's no denying it's practically synonymous with Kiwi wine.
If you're anything like me, it's a wine which fails to inspire. Intensely flavoured, full of exotic fruit - it's a perfect pub wine: in your face and unthinking. (I'm doing a great job of selling this tasting, aren't I...)
HOWEVER, there's so much more to Kiwi wine that alcoholic Um Bongo! The outstanding Pinot Noirs of Central Otago are some of the finest wines in the world; the serious reds from Hawke's Bay are bold yet refined, giving some great Bordeauxs a run for their money; and we haven't even touched on some of the more exciting white wines, with excellent Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris all on offer!
We want to show off how good these wines are, so a tasting during "Pour Yourself a Glass of New Zealand" month seems like prime time.
Due to a series of wedding related events, this month's tasting will be on the third Friday instead of the last. As ever, we'll have nibbles alongside a selection of six wines which have been picked to show off the variety and quality of New Zealand's vinous offerings.
