Mullineux 'Kloof Street' Old Vine Chenin Blanc
Mullineux 'Kloof Street' Old Vine Chenin Blanc
Aromas of sun ripened pears and wet granite and on the palate a vibrant acidity balanced by a soft, round texture and some pithy character with a fresh, mineral finish.
From Chris & Andrea Mullineux, who have won Platters Winery of the year four times in the last seven years - a massive achievement, singling them out as South Africa's oenological power-players. This is an excellent introduction to their range, with old Chenin Blanc vines ranging from 38 years old in the Shale and Schist soils of Kasteelberg to 40+ year old vines in Paardeberg's granitic soils.
When the grapes arrive in the winery they are whole bunch pressed and allowed to cold settle with a very minimal addition of sulphur - as with all Mullineux wines, this addition is kept to a bare minimum and no further additions are made. Only indiginous yeasts are used. This wine is predominantly tank fermented, but a small proportion (15%) goes into old barrels for fermentation, aiding the textural development of the wine.
