Moillard Grivot Maranges 1er Cru Clos des Rois

Clos du Rois is a single vineyard, one of seven climats within the Maranges appellation to have Premier Cru status. Maranges, the sourthernmost part of Burgundy's Cotes de Beaune, borders Santenay and is home ot some of Burgundy's best kept secrets (and best value).

This wine from Moillard Grivot encapsulates the region perfectly. Medium-bodied Pinot Noir which is rounded and supple, a fruit forward palate with delightful notes of preserved strawberries adding some delicious fun to the darker fruits which form the backbone of this wine. Hints of spice and liquorice develop with only a little bottle age to tobacco with notes of game. A great Burgundy that drinks fairly forward, allowing you to enjoy premier cru quality without having to lay down in the cellar for a decade. Highly recommended.
