Ca'Marcanda Promis

Ca'Marcanda's Promis is named for the commitment of the Gaja family to incredibe quality across their entire range - not just their cult blends from Piedmont and Tuscany. The 2018 Promis is their most immediately approachable wines from Tuscany, showing a complex character and undeniable elegance. The nose is rich and concentrate, with blueberry, licorice and cocoa hints. The in-mouth freshness and its high level of acidity allow the drinker to a great initial taste. It starts fresh to then develop balsamic notes and scents of graphite. Then, it turns into a more mellow character with rhubarb and a menthol note. The palate is voluminous with fine-grained and silky tannins.

Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese (primarily from Bolgheri, but some also from Bibbona) are harvested at optimum ripeness, with an excellent balance of sugars, tannins and acidity. The three varieties are fermented and macerated separately, for around 15 days, before ageing for 12 months in oak (again, separartely). After this 12 months, the blending takes places before considerable bottle ageing before release.

The 2018 vintage (currently in-stock) was one of exceptional quality, and great ageing potential. The year produced some unusual challenges, but the long harvesting window, with great temperature changes between day and night allowed for a slow and complete ripening whilst maintaining excellent freshness.
