Another example of South Africa producing incredible Bordeaux blends at price-points that make them a realistic option for Sunday Dinner! This is aged in new French oak for 23 months, before the constituent wines are married for at least month prior to bottling. The resultant wine has an incredibly enticing nose, full of violets and thyme, intense blackcurrant and underlying cigar-box. On the palate, it is superbly crafted with a good balance of vibrant multi-layered dark red fruits supported by tight, well-honed tannins. There is plenty here to handle the oak effortlessly. This is an opulent yet sophisticated wine with a long, compelling finish. Satisfying now (with some time in Decanter), but with time this wine will mature into something really rather special.
