Chateau Piganeau has been in the Brunot family since 1978. The estate's previous owner, Monsieur Piganeau was the director of the Ecole de Beaux-Arts, leaving a somewhat artistic history for the Chateau. More importantly though, he left a vineyard on gravel and sand soils which is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Situated near to the Gironde, the microclimate and soils lend themselves to wines of superb balance, with a slightly earlier harvest date than many ensuring good levels of acidity and avoiding late season rains.

The wine itself has a wonderful purity of small, dark fruits - with damson and plum notes intermingling with bright hints of dark cherry. Depth is provided with leather and balsamic with hints of spice. With a long and persistent finish, this is a superb example of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. The current vintage (2016) was excpetional for Bordeaux, although the Right-Bank wines of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol are a little earlier drinking than their equivalents from 2010 and 2015. Whilst the 2016 Chateau Piganeau is already drinking beautifully once decanted, it has great potential to develop in the bottle until the late 2020s and beyond.
